An Apprenticeship allows you to combine employment and study by mixing on-the-job training with classroom learning in a specific vocational area such as Hairdressing or Business and Administration.
The minimum age to start an Apprenticeship is 16 but there is no upper age limit. 16 year olds must have left school at the end of year 11 (last Friday in June). Apprentices must be UK/EU citizens or meet immigration legislation (phone for more information).
The Apprenticeship requires the apprentice to be employed for a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 40 hours per week. Finding employment is the first step, visit HERE.
Apprentices must be paid the National Minimum Wage for apprentices which is £4.81 per hour for 16-18 year olds and those people over 19 years old in the first year of their apprenticeship. Apprentices over 19 in their 2nd year of apprenticeship must be paid the National Minimum Wage for their age group see HERE.
A Study Programme is a full-time college-based course for learners aged between 16-19. The course will include a vocational qualification, English and Maths and work experience.
You must be aged 16-19. You must be under 19 on 31st August 2021. If you are 16 years old, you must have left school at the end of year 11 (earliest enrolment date 1st August). Applicants must be UK/EU citizens or meet immigration legislation (phone for more information).
19-24 year olds with an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) can also complete a Study Programme.
Learners that achieved a GCSE Grade 4 or above in English/and or Maths are not required to complete GCSEs on this programme. Those learners who achieved a Grade U, 1 or 2 are required to complete Functional Skills in English and/or Maths.
If you have an achieved GCSE Grade 3 or lower in English and/or Maths, then you will be required to continue to study GCSE English and/or Maths. This will mean that you attend college for an additional day to complete these subjects and take the examination.
A Study Programme is a one-year course but you may have the opportunity to progress to an apprenticeship, further learning or employment.
Courses are for learners who are over the age of 19 (as at 31/08/21) who cannot commit to an apprenticeship but would like to gain a vocational qualification.
You would be required to attend college for two full days per week from 9am to 5pm for 6 months.
Functional Skills in English and Maths are included in all our adult programmes.
