Option A - Become a hairdresser by doing an apprenticeship

A hairdressing apprenticeship will give you the chance to get on-the-job training as you work in a salon and help professionals in styling hair, cleaning up, and preparing clients by shampooing and conditioning before a cut. And you’ll be gaining a nationally recognized qualification along the way.

You’ll also be paid the National Minimum Wage (https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates) for apprentices, which is:

If you are under 19 or in the first year of your apprenticeship, you will be paid the national minimum wage for an apprentice. However, if you are 19+ and in the second year of your apprenticeship, you’ll be paid the minimum wage for your age group.

Option B - Become a hairdresser by completing a Hairdressing NVQ or VRQ Course

An NVQ or VRQ Diploma will give you a nationally recognized qualification that proves your completion of a professionally led course that has given you all the skills, knowledge, and abilities you need to get started on your professional hairdressing career.

How much can you earn after becoming a hairdresser?

According to the National Career Service, the average salary ranges from £14,000 for a starter to £30,000 for UK Hairdressers. Of course, the earning potential is unlimited depending on what route you decide to take with your hairdressing career, your experience, skills, and qualifications.
