If you’re thinking about starting a course with Central Training Academy and you’re worried about costs — you might be eligible for the Vulnerable Person Bursary. This bursary provides up to £1,200 per academic year to help with things like travel, meals, equipment, or other course-related expenses.
Who Can Get the Vulnerable Bursary?
The Vulnerable Person Bursary is designed for young people in specific circumstances. You could qualify if you are:
In care or a care leaver
Receiving Income Support or Universal Credit in your own name
Receiving Disability Living Allowance (or Personal Independence Payment) and Employment and Support Allowance (or Universal Credit)
If you’re unsure whether you meet the criteria, our support team can help you check. Even if you’re not eligible for this specific bursary, we offer Discretionary Bursaries too, so it’s worth asking!
How Does It Work?
If you’re eligible and enrolled in one of our full-time courses, you’ll receive the bursary in instalments throughout the year. The money is usually paid directly to help cover your travel costs, meals, uniforms, or other essentials that make it easier for you to stay in learning.
You don’t have to pay it back — it’s a grant, not a loan.
Why It Matters
We know that life circumstances shouldn’t be a barrier to education. The Vulnerable Person Bursary is part of our wider commitment to supporting all learners, especially those who face extra challenges.
This funding can help take the pressure off so you can focus on gaining the skills, experience and qualifications to move forward in life.
How to Apply
Once you’ve applied for your course at Central Training Academy, we’ll guide you through the bursary application process. You’ll need to provide evidence of your circumstances — such as a benefits letter or local authority care status — but we’ll make it as simple as possible.
