It is so easy to get to October and realise that you are on the wrong course. The pressure to choose a course that will start you on the career path to your dream job is enormous. You’ve had a lot to think about! From mock GCSEs and your actual GCSEs to choosing between 6th Form, Further Education College or starting an Apprenticeship.
You may have made your choice for your future career by yourself, with your parents or been influenced by what your friends are doing. You might have been be happy with your choice when you made it earlier this year, but now…
I've chosen the wrong course - what should i do?
Maybe you followed your friends to college or sixth form, but after months away from school, you’re finding it hard to settle in. Or maybe the course just isn’t what you thought it would be.
Now that you’re a few weeks in, those doubts are starting to creep in:
- “I think I’ve made a mistake.”
- “This subject isn’t right for me.”
- “This isn’t what I expected.”
- “I feel stuck – and I don’t know what to do next.”
These feelings are completely normal – and you’re not alone in having them.
It’s a good idea to talk things through with people you trust, like friends, family or teachers. But sometimes it’s even more helpful to speak with someone outside your usual circle.
That’s where we come in. At Central Training Academy, we’re here to offer friendly, honest advice about your next steps – with no pressure and no commitment. Whether that means staying where you are, switching courses, moving to a new provider, or exploring apprenticeships or vocational training with us, we’ll help you find what’s right for you.
Can I Switch Courses?
Yes – and you wouldn’t be the first! Many learners change course or training provider early in the academic year. It’s far better to make a change now than to stick with something that you won’t be happy with.
At Central Training Academy, we work with young people who want something more hands-on, more practical, and more career-focused.
You might be eligible to join a vocational training programme or apprenticeship – even if you’ve already started something else this term.
